Also known as "The Ballet Bomb", the Deep South Ballet Collective focuses on creating works that will not only showcase dancers but also allow them to progress. Cathy Hebert
Cathy Hebert, owner and artistic director of Hebert Dancentre in Opelousas, Louisiana, has studied and performed with premier artists and choreographers across the United States. She was a soloist with San Francisco Ballet Opera, and from Alonzo King to Gwen Verdon, Cathy's career as a professional dancer spans many disciplines.
Over the past three decades, Cathy has set several ballets around the region as Artistic Director of Ballet Alexandria (now Red River Ballet), the University of Louisiana, Jill Listi Dance Studio, Hebert Dancentre and was invited as a guest to teach at regional ballet companies in the state.
Gina Aswell
Gina Aswell, a native of Opelousas, began her studies with Hebert Dancentre and Lafayette Ballet Theatre, where she was a company member for nearly a decade. She studied with the Joffrey Ballet School in New York for a year working with Trinette Singleton, Eleanor D’Antuono, David Howard, Rebecca Wright, Kathy Posin and John Magnus and later acquired her BFA in Dance from UL. Gina has 16 years of experience teaching ballet working with a range of students from beginner to advanced in both Mississippi and Louisiana and has been a collaborator with Cathy Hebert on several works such as Swan Lake, Paquita, and Don Quixote across Acadiana. She currently teaches at Basin Arts, Jill Listi Dance Studio, Hebert Dancentre, Dance Connection, Studio 84, the Dance Pointe and Core Dance Center.
Paige Barnett
Victoria “Paige” Barnett is Lafayette, LA native who began formal training with Jill Listi and Cathy Hebert. While pursuing her degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, she performed in ULL’s State of LA Dance works that include Swan Lake, Giselle, Paquita, and Ode to Balanchine. In 2015, Paige attended New Dialect’s summer intensive in Nashville, TN. Most recently, she has worked alongside Clare Cook on the development of the collaborative piece, ‘Surface’ and is a company member of Basin Arts Dance Collective. As an artist director and creator, Paige has explored performance art and installations with her work, Woman in Bath and the recreation of Tina Giraurd’s Mardi Gras Suites. She is the director of the National Choreography Month in Lafayette and spearheaded Acadiana Dance Month at Basin Arts. Additionally, Paige is a ballet instructor at Jill Listi Dance Studio and has been on staff since 2010. Barnett received her B.S. in the spring of 2017 in Chemical Engineering and continues her professional development as a dancer and instructor with Basin Arts in Lafayette, LA.
